The Alexander Parure - Ruby & Diamond Parure
This parure of Burmese rubies and brilliant-cut white diamonds consists of the tiara, necklace, chandelier earrings, bracelet, and ring set in white 18 carat gold.  It combines ideally the contradictory aspects of  modernity and traditionalism, the contemporary design making it clear that grand jewels such as tiaras and important necklaces can be as up-to-date as the latest machinery or technology.  Designed especially for Lady Colin Campbell after a one-of-a-kind tiara crafted by  the late master craftsman Alexander von Beregzhasy, whose specialty was copying the crown jewels for the Queens of Europe such as Queen Silvia of Sweden so that they could travel with them with alacrity, this unique parure  has become known as The Alexander.  It is best appreciated across a room, where the sparkle of the pieces owes as much to the artistic design and its superb execution as it does to the stones, which are cut and set in such a way that they catch and radiate the light hypnotically.  None of the stones in this parure is large.  Size is not the issue, but workmanship and design of such exacting standards that the beauty of the whole is enrapturing.

Lady Colin Campbell finds this parure surprisingly versatile.  "Of course, one can't wear the tiara out except to balls and events which require tiaras, but it is amazing how often I wear the earrings, bracelet and ring out to dinner in restaurants, with or without the necklace, which is so artistic without being flashy that it can be worn over a turtleneck in winter or with a simple cotton outfit in summer.  It's particularly effective with funky clothes like suede tops offset with leggings or jeans and knee-high boots, and this summer I took everything minus the tiara to the South of France where it got several outings in nightclubs, at dinner parties, and even at a black tie wedding reception at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.  I think that any pieces of jewellery that can be worn as formally and informally as these are masterpieces of design."

The parure consisting of tiara, necklace, cathedral earrings, bracelet and ring with slight variations but with stones of a similar size and quality has a base price of  £395,000.
