This brooch, made in the 1930s, consists of two blooming flowers, one of 15 rubies, the other of 15 sapphires, of differing sizes,  on a stem of 21 carat red gold with leaves of gold.  It is some four inches in length.

"This brooch is a joy to wear and I wear it often," Lady Colin Campbell says.  "Because one flower is rubies and the other sapphires, I wear it with earrings and rings of one or the other stone and sometimes with both.  It also looks good with plain gold earrings, though I have occasion to wear those less frequently than I would like. It is the perfect winter brooch, though I also wear it quite a lot in summer, with classical or tailored wear, especially linen."

A similar version of this brooch made with stones of a similar quantity and size and set in 21 carat red gold starts at £28,000.
